On May 14th 2019. SMATSA completed first phase of ATM system modernisation and upgrade which is part of SUSAN programme of modernisation. By completing this project SMATSA renewed existing hardware of Area Control Centre, Approach and TWR ATS units in Belgrade and Podgorica and also extended ATM System on new locations in Batajnica, Kraljevo, Niš and Tivat. Project is successfully completed in cooperation with ATM System manufacturer Thales LAS France, and with minimal impact on traffic flows. All activites were coordinated with Eurocontrol.

SMATSA plans to continue various systems improvement within SUSAN modernisation programme, with ultimate goal to keep its respectable position amongst European Air Navigation Service Providers.
