SMATSA Selects Sunhillo’s SDDS-IP System

Sunhillo is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract to supply Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services SMATSA llc (SMATSA) a Surveillance Data Distribution System (SDDS). The award was subject to a public procurement for ’the procurement and implementation of an SDDS System.’ The contract required Sunhillo to deliver two redundant SDDS systems, including spares and training, over a 13-month period. Installed in October of 2024, one of the SDDS systems has been used for live traffic operations, whilst the other will continue to be used for infrastructure support and testing.

The SDDS system is fully IP centric, with additional equipment to pre-process legacy serial inputs and convert them to IP. While each SDDS system is configured to customer specifications, it is built from Sunhillo’s commercially available surveillance data processing units running its’ foundational SureLine® software. SureLine delivers powerful, out-of-the-box capabilities, including surveillance data distribution, conversion, filtering, and ASTERIX validation, trusted by customers in over 50 countries.

As security becomes ever important in an IP centric world, optional data diode modules can be added to the SDDS system when data is to be shared with a third party. The data diode modules provide a hardware enforced, one-way flow of data, ensuring the SDDS system cannot be accessed from those external connections.
