Serbia and Montenegro are forming Functional Airspace Block – FAB

Today representatives of Serbia and Montenegro Aviation Authorities signed Memorandum of Understanding, which refers to the initiative of forming future Functional Airspace Block – FAB. Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the directors of Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia, Montenegro Civil Aviation Agency and Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services SMATSA Llc, Mr Milan Živanović, Mr Dragan Đurović and Mr Slobodan Cvijan.

FAB initiative represents important prerequisite for full integration into european aviation structure, particularly for implementation of Single European Sky (SES) legislative package. Mutual approach of Serbia and Montenegro to this important business was defined by their geographical positions, making them partners in FAB initiative. Furthemore Serbia and Montengro have common provider of air navigation services, ie Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services SMATSA Llc.

Memorandum of Understanding signing parties agree to create mutual, provisional working group in order to make preparations for implementation of Republic of Serbia and Montenegro FAB initiative. Working group task is to analyse possibilities and requirements for FAB formation, current FAB initiatives in the region and Europe and to propose optimal solution for both states after overall analyses of possible options. Upon this, authorised Ministries of the two countries will suggest concrete decisions to their Goverments. The basis for mutual action on FAB initiative has been given by signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Air Traffic Domain between Serbia and Montenegro, which came into force at the end of October, this year, upon ratification by the parliaments of the two states.
