The first aircraft of the Company Air Serbia, Airbus A319, has landed at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

The aircraft flew to Belgrade from Düsseldorf, where it had been painted, and was intercepted and escorted through Serbian airspace by two Air Force MiG-29 aircraft. The Company Air Serbia will officially commence flight operations on October 26, when the first promotional flight on the route from Belgrade to Abu Dhabi is scheduled.

The aircraft logo on the tail represents the stylized medieval Serbian coat-of-arms with double-headed white eagle. This modern logo of the double-headed eagle is based on the combination of the elements from Miroslav Gospels and Dusan’s Code. This “Airbus” A319 aircraft is the first one leased with the aim of being operated by the new national airline “Air Serbia”.

It has “Air Serbia” written on its fuselage and is white with additional blue and red details.

Airbus A319 was escorted on its flight through Serbia by Serbian Air Force MiG-29 aircraft, and the fire-fighting service organised special welcome for it.

Belgrade air traffic control was there to make sure that the flight was conducted without any problems.

“This is a very important day for Serbia and Montenegro air traffic control. The first aircraft of Air Serbia has been received in our airspace. The aircraft has come from Hungarian airspace and we have been in contact with them the whole time in order to make sure that everything goes well”, says Mr. Aleksandar Obradovic, the Supervisor in Air Traffic Control Center in Belgrade.

“Personally, I am very satisfied for establishing contact with the first aircraft that is hopefully going to be the future of the aviation in Serbia.”

Airbus, bearing the logo and the colours of the new airline, will make its inaugural flight as a part of “Air Serbia” fleet on October 26, when the promotional flight from Belgrade to Abu Dhabi is planned. Mr. Petar Vojinovic, the editor of the aviation portal TangoSix, states that Airbus aircraft are the perfect choice for the new airline.

“Airbus aircraft are considered to be the safest in the civil air transport, and the aircraft that Serbia will exploit are of later generation than the existing Jat Airways aircraft and will be unified with Etihad Airways fleet. They will incur lower business expenses, consume less fuel and the maintenance will be less complicated”, says Petar Vojinovic.

The First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic announced yesterday that in exactly seven days the first aircraft of Company “Air Serbia” would take off. Mr. Vucic said that it would be the most sophisticated aircraft with much more refined interior design than that of the most renowned international airlines.
