Dear Minister,

Representatives of Užice town,

Representatives of the neighbouring municipalities,

Representatives of Serbian Army,

Representatives of the local self-governments and Republic,

Allow me to welcome you on behalf of Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services SMATSA LLC.

 

Today, I am also your host, since SMATSA LLC has been providing air traffic services, from this spot, since 1992.

This tower, in front of you, has 700m2 and most sophisticated equipment. It was built in 1997 and during these years we have been implementing the newest equipment for dealing with arriving and departing aircraft. In compliance with our goals to expand this aviation port, SMATSA LLC made this airport part of all its future modernization plans. Therefore, right now, I give my word that we are ready to enable safe and efficient air traffic in this part of Serbia in professional way and in compliance with all European rules and professional requirements. Ponikve Aerodrome control has 17 employees of all profiles: engineers, air traffic control officers, technicians and meteorologists.

Furthermore, Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services SMATSA LLC is responsible for the airspace of more than 145,000 square kilometers, comprising Republic of Serbia, State of Montenegro, part of the international waters of the Adriatic Sea, as well as 55 per cent of the upper airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Our main activity is air navigation services provision while additional activities refer to training of air traffic control officers and pilots, flight inspection services (calibration of radio navigational aids), consultancy services and aircraft maintenance.

We are proud to announce that we achieved the greatest volume of air traffic in the Southeast Europe in this year, thus confirming SMATSA LLC leading position in the region.

Besides providing air traffic control services to the aircraft en-route, SMATSA LLC provides approach and aerodrome air traffic control services at the following airports: Belgrade, Batajnica, Kraljevo, Nis, Vrsac, Ponikve, Podgorica and Tivat. Moreover, SMATSA LLC provides services to the aircraft departing and landing at the airports in the area adjacent to the area under its jurisdiction such as: Skopje, Thessaloniki, Tirana, Dubrovnik, Split, Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla, Zagreb, Osijek, Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava, Timisoara and Sofia.

All services offered by SMATSA LLC are regulated according to the internationally agreed rules, which we strictly adhere to. SMATSA LLC provides all necessary information and safe overflights to about 550,000 commercial aircraft on an annual basis. This number should be increased by a great number of sports, military, training and other flights within the area of its jurisdiction.

SMATSA LLC business activities are fully performed in accordance with national and international legal acts as well as international agreements. Owing to highly qualified employees, constant development and technical-technological upgrading, SMATSA LLC became member of the most important world international aviation organisations, thus integrated itself into European air traffic flow management as EUROCONTROL member.

According to EUROCONTROL, European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, SMATSA is the second ranked ANSP on the criterion of safety in Europe. That kind of service we will provide at this aerodrome as well.

I wish you prosperous beginning of your operations, hoping that this aerodrome will contribute to the development of Serbia, particularly in the economy, tourism and services provision sphere. I am also happy that SMATSA LLC will have important role in all these activities, since we are not only controlling air traffic but we are also training pilots who will land at this airport, as well as future air traffic control officers who will enable safe airspace in this region, as per the highest possible standards.
