The Sixth Gymnasium celebrated the Girls’ Date

26.04.2018

In the framework of the International Girls’ Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the last Thursday in April, and according to the very goal of the event, by which the girls are empowered to manage their personal interests, abilities and talents while choosing their professions and future careers, and not typically divide between ’ male ’and ’female ’professions, the Sixth Belgrade Gymnasium, organized two visits on April 26th: Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services  SMATSA llc Belgrade and Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Belgrade.

During the visit to the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services, SMATSA,  12 girls were accompanied by the teacher Suzana Lazović, ATC controller  Mirjana Vasiljević, and Mirjana Jeftenić, a representative of the GIZ.

As a part of this visit, the students were guests of  SMATSA Aviation Academy in Vrsac and Air Traffic Control at Belgrade Airport.

The visit and impressions from Vrsac: Visiting the school premises, hangars for airplanes, airport, getting acquainted with the conditions of education at the Academy, training for pilots, pilot occupational specifics  (as well as the fact that pilot training is nowadays conducted by women as well, of course, in small number …) accompanied by teachers and instructors. The students tried flying on the Flight Training Simulator, which gave them a special impression (to fly a plane a, what an excitement …).

Air Traffic Control  in Belgrade: A visit to the Air Traffic Control Training Center, familiarizing with the conditions for training for flight controllers, tested  the  Training Simulator for Aerodrome controllers, accompanied by the instructors and flight controllers who shared their experiences and professional knowledge with them. They then entered the Air Traffic Control Room, where flight controllers were doing their everyday work, made separation between planes in the sky above us. Real picture with all the challenges of this profession … what an experience!

Children impressions

’We were welcomed and escorted as very important and distinguished guests by  cheerful  managers of Aviation Academy and Air Traffic Control Training Centre… Instructors and teachers – a smile on their face while they are talking to us, talking about their work, the idea they shared with us:’ Everything is possible when you like it and love it,’ the satisfaction with the work they do, positive energy, team spirit, stressful occupation, big responsibility, … wonderful experience that we shall share.’

Teachers’ impressions

’The girls’ day fulfilled the expectations of all participants, they are the ones who have to make decision regarding their career, and the ones who have unselfishly shared their experiences with young ladies.’

The girls’ day was also realized this year with the support of Germany’s development cooperation with projects implemented by GIZ, ’Encouraging youth employment’and ’Reform of secondary vocational education’. Partners in the organization of this event were the  Association of Serbian Women Deputies and the Center ’Inventive’.
