On the occasion of adopting the plan on building a new Control Tower at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, SMATSA LLC CEO, Mr. Radojica Rovčanin, has made the following statement:

“Dear members of the news media,

It gives me a great pleasure to inform you that SMATSA LLC Management has adopted a detailed plan on building the new Control Tower at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The tower, which will be 75 meters high, will be the highest in this part of Europe and among ten highest in the world.

By constructing the new Control Tower, SMATSA LLC will keep up with the upcoming plans of the Government of the Republic of Serbia on granting concessions for the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, since the new equipment will support the further growth of air traffic, and thus help the realization of all plans of the future concessionaire. Project documentation design will be completed by June 2018, and the construction works, which will begin in autumn 2018, will last for one year. The new Control Tower will be built on land which is the property of SMATSA LLC, and since the project will be financed from SMATSA LLC funds, it will not burden the budgets of the Republic of Serbia and the State of Montenegro.

The existing Control Tower was built back in 1962, when the overall annual number of flights was 300, which is nowadays the number handled by SMATSA LLC in a peak hour.  This masterpiece of architecture will both provide Air Traffic Control Officers with greater visibility of airport maneuvering areas and improve their working conditions. In line with European regulations and standards, the new Control Tower will be an energy efficient construction, built from environmental – friendly materials, and fitted with cutting edge technology.

The conceptual design of the Tower has been made by “Energoprojekt Indistrija”, and the construction works on the same will be entrusted to domestic constructors. This project is also very important for SMATSA LLC, since Area, Terminal and Aerodrome Control Services Centers will be situated at one place, in close proximity to one another.

SMATSA LLC will continue to invest in the future development of civil and military aviation in the Republic of Serbia, most notably the sections relating to the development of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

With my best wishes”
